THE THINKING BEHIND THE ANSWER

How this calculation works

Both tile and box quantities round upward. This area estimate does not subtract grout joints or model the layout; intricate cuts and diagonal patterns can need more waste.

Tiles = ceiling(area × (1 + allowance ÷ 100) ÷ area of one tile)

Your calculation, step by step

  1. Tile area = (30 ÷ 100) × (30 ÷ 100) = 0.09 m².
  2. Tiles = ceiling(22 ÷ 0.09) = 245.
  3. Boxes = ceiling(245 ÷ 10) = 25.
A worked example

20m² of 30cm × 30cm tiles with 10% extra needs 245 tiles, or 25 boxes of 10.
