THE THINKING BEHIND THE ANSWER

How this calculation works

The selected allowance is added to volume before estimating mass. Density is a user-provided bulk estimate; compaction and product type can change the required quantity.

Volume = length × width × (depth ÷ 100); mass = volume × bulk density

Your calculation, step by step

  1. Base volume = 5 × 4 × (5 ÷ 100) = 1 m³.
  2. Including 10% allowance = 1.1 m³.
  3. Estimated mass = 1.1 × 1,600 = 1,760 kg.
A worked example

5m × 4m × 5cm with 10% extra is 1.1m³, or 1.76 metric tonnes at 1,600kg/m³.
