THE THINKING BEHIND THE ANSWER

How this calculation works

Peak sun hours and losses are your scenario inputs, not a location forecast. The loss input includes production-side losses; storage delivery efficiency applies separately to battery sizing. This is daily energy arithmetic: it does not size instantaneous power, structural loading, wiring, inverter surge, permits, seasonal reliability or an installable system.

DC kW = daily kWh / (peak sun hours × (1 − loss)). Panels = ceiling(DC kW × 1000 / panel W). Nominal storage = daily kWh × autonomy / (usable share × delivery efficiency).

Your calculation, step by step

  1. Convert the daily target into DC power using the entered sunlight and loss assumptions.
  2. Round panel quantity up.
  3. Size illustrative storage separately for usable capacity and delivery losses.
A worked example

20 kWh/day, 4 peak sun hours and 20% production loss require 6.25 kW DC, rounded up to 16 panels rated at 400 W.
