THE THINKING BEHIND THE ANSWER

How this calculation works

Subtract unpainted openings from the total wall area, multiply by coats, and divide by the manufacturer’s coverage rate. Surface texture and preparation affect real coverage.

Litres = (wall area − openings) × coats ÷ coverage × (1 + allowance ÷ 100)

Your calculation, step by step

  1. Paintable area = 50 − 5 = 45 m².
  2. Before allowance = 45 × 2 ÷ 10 = 9 L.
  3. With 10% allowance = 9.9 L.
A worked example

45m², two coats, 10m²/L coverage, and 10% allowance need 9.9L.
