THE THINKING BEHIND THE ANSWER

How this calculation works

An assumption model with constant deposits and rate. A nominal annual rate divided by 12 is not an advertised APY or AER. Interest rounds each month. Tax, inflation, fees, withdrawals and changing returns are excluded. Zero interest is a useful starting scenario; no return is promised.

Monthly interest = round(opening savings × nominal APR / 1200); then add the monthly deposit. Stop at the first modeled month that meets the target.

Your calculation, step by step

  1. Round modeled monthly interest to the currency’s minor unit.
  2. Add the deposit at each month end.
  3. Stop at the target or bounded horizon.
A worked example

Starting with 500 toward a 5,000 goal, deposits of 250/month and no interest reach the goal in 18 months.
