THE THINKING BEHIND THE ANSWER

How this calculation works

Uses the entered nominal annual rate divided by 12 and monthly compounding. Contributions are equal and nonnegative. The model assumes a constant rate, with no fees, taxes, inflation, or market volatility; it illustrates a scenario rather than predicting a return.

FV = P(1 + r)^n + C × [(1 + r)^n − 1] ÷ r. Start-of-month contributions multiply the contribution term by (1 + r).

Your calculation, step by step

  1. Compound at 0.4166666667% per month for 120 months.
  2. Add 200 at the end of each month.
  3. Separate your contributions from the interest generated by this scenario.
A worked example

2,000 growing at 5% nominal annual interest, compounded monthly for 2 years with no additions, becomes about 2,209.88.
