THE THINKING BEHIND THE ANSWER

How this calculation works

Assumes monthly compounding and deposits made at the end of each month. With no interest, the gap is simply divided by the number of months. Results exclude fees, tax, inflation, and changing rates.

Monthly saving = max(0, target − current × (1 + r)^n) ÷ [((1 + r)^n − 1) ÷ r].

Your calculation, step by step

  1. Grow your current savings for 36 months at the entered rate.
  2. Divide the remaining gap by the value of equal month-end deposits.
  3. Save approximately 236.7308867 at the end of each month.
A worked example

With 1,000 saved, a 10,000 target in 3 years and zero interest requires 250 per month.
