THE THINKING BEHIND THE ANSWER

How this calculation works

This is a one-dimensional thought experiment. The default 40,000 km is a rounded illustrative target, not a precise equatorial or meridional circumference. A human’s width is an explicit assumption, not a universal biological average. One gap is allocated per repeated unit; closed loops, terrain, physical feasibility and safety are not modeled. Source a scientific or anatomical claim before using it in marketing.

Repeat-unit length = item span + gap. Required repeat units = ceiling(target length / repeat-unit length).

Your calculation, step by step

  1. Make the target and repeated-unit assumptions explicit.
  2. Divide by the combined span and gap.
  3. Round up to the next whole repeat unit.
A worked example

An illustrative 40,000 km target and 0.50 m per repeat unit require 80,000,000 units.
