THE THINKING BEHIND THE ANSWER

How this calculation works

This is an energy scenario, not a routed journey. The session count is an energy-only lower bound assuming charging from reserve to the selected limit at each stop. Station locations, availability, connector compatibility, terrain, weather, queues, taper and detours are not supplied. Time uses average power delivered to the battery; peak charger power is not a suitable substitute.

Battery energy = distance × consumption / 100. Additional energy = max(0, trip energy + arrival reserve − starting energy). Grid energy = additional energy / efficiency.

Your calculation, step by step

  1. Keep the entered arrival reserve.
  2. Subtract starting battery energy from trip-plus-reserve energy.
  3. Account for charging losses in grid energy; use average battery-delivered power for time.
A worked example

500 km at 18 kWh/100 km needs 90 kWh. A 75 kWh battery starting at 90%, with a 15% reserve, needs 33.75 kWh added to the battery.
